About Us

The Chamber is focused on regional economic growth and job creation through business recruitment, retention and expansion efforts, and encourage people to spend locally. 

We are focused on a new era of community development activism to jumpstart the local economy.  Our collaborative work with the Economic Development Corporation of Lawrence and Douglas County (EDC), the City of Lawrence, Douglas County, the Bioscience and Technology Business Center (BTBC), USD 497 and the KU Small Business Development Center, and other key community organizations, is centrally focused on maintaining and growing our business base in Lawrence and Douglas county by providing the tools, resources and access to our existing business community to spark economic growth.

The Chamber will focus on on regional economic growth and creation through business recruitment, retention and expansion efforts, and encouraging the retention and attraction of local spend.

Objectives

  • Continue to strengthen and develop the area’s Economic Development Partnership.
  • Seek to establish new sustainable funding sources.
  • Utilize community partnerships to recruit new business to the community
  • Engage business leaders and development partners, through site visits and company tours, to remove barriers and identify resources for retention and expansion.
  • Maintain and market a database of existing sites and buildings, including VenturePark.
  • Engage local manufacturing and other business leaders to develop a curriculum for tech training to better reflect workforce needs of the region.
  • Work with community partners, investors and local business owners to create a culture of entrepreneurship.
